Rants and Ramblings

Welcome to this week's edition of my random, and often unrelated, thoughts running around in my head!

1)  This little bundle of fat and giggles started "school" yesterday.  He also took his first few steps last night!  Yahoo!  Sorry, piggy, but 27 pounds is about 20 too many to carry around all the time.  Get a move on.

2)  The leaves are finally starting to change!

3) Today, work provided fruit, veggies, cheese, and crackers to us. How sweet is that?

4)  So, I hear the regular NFL refs are back.  Matt says that he's going to punch the first person he hears complain about them.  I think that's fair, no?

5) The plan is to spend all day Sunday in the kitchen making foods to freeze so school lunches can go smoothly.  I heart cooking and baking and I'm actually looking forward to it.  Am I weird?!

6)  I'm really digging Eminem right now.

7)  Speaking of Eminem, I'd love some M&M's.

8) We're having lunch at Texas Roadhouse with my parents on Saturday.  Did you know there is, like, nothing on their menu that you could even try to define as healthy?  Bleck.  Not sure what to do, short of eating before I go.  I really don't want to be rude, but seriously....this weight maintenance thing is uber important to me.

9) I think we've finally decided on Halloween costumes!  Hendrix wants to be Spiderman, and he tells me that Jameson should be Doc Ock. (I didn't know this guy existed until last night.  Oh, I was informed.)  I'm going to buy Hendrix's costume, but I think I'm going to have to get creative with Jameson's.

10) I've started this cardio dance-type routine that I plan on doing at least 2x a week.  The first time I did it, Saturday morning, I could barely move, which means it was seriously working muscle groups that haven't been worked in a while.  I feel like if I do this 2-3 times a week all winter long, I'm going to really tone my core and perhaps even be bikini ready by June!

Have a great day, everyone.  Hang in there, it's **almost** the weekend.

Weekend Recap (September 21-23)

Hi!  Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.  Ours was very enjoyable!

Friday evening, we made a frozen pizza and had a "pizza-picnic" on the living room floor while watching "Open Season 3."  This was the first time that Jameson ever got really excited about watching TV.  It was so darn cute.  He was shoving pizza in his mouth, and every few seconds, he'd get all excited and wave his fat little hands around and squeal.  His beautiful brown eyes were glued to that TV the whole time!  Gonna have to make sure we limit TV for our boys so they don't become couch potatoes!

Saturday morning, my mom arrived around 8:30 am to watch the boys for us so we could get away.  At 10, we headed about 5 minutes down the road to our friends' Abe and Josie's house.  Our other friends (Abe's sister and her husband) Nate and Jeanna met us there as well.  We all headed over to northern Indiana to Josie's parents' lake cottage.

Once there, we made turkey burgers for lunch and had some fresh fruit.  Then, we all watched the OSU game, and just relaxed.  We got ourselves ready around 5, then headed to Pie-Eyed Petey's for some very delicious food!  Matt and I had onion rings (I had 2, he had the rest!) and a buffalo chicken pizza.  Oh yum.  We had a few drinks with our dinner, then headed back to the cottage to drop off the vehicle and walk to a nearby bar.  At the bar, we had a few drinks, and were planning on listening to, and possibly singing some karaoke, but due to college football, karaoke still hadn't started at 11 pm, so we left and just went back to the cottage to hang out.  We were a fun bunch, and laughed and had a great time together!

Sunday morning, Jeanna and I were both up around 7:30.  It's amazing how having kids changes you so you literally can't sleep in anymore.  Ha!  Once everyone was up, we packed up the car, cleaned up the cottage, and headed out.  We stopped for a great breakfast at a little greasy-spoon kind of diner, then drove back home.

I missed our little men quite a lot, for only being gone for about 24 hours!  We got home, mom headed back to Indiana, and we spent the rest of the day just relaxing and playing.

It was a great weekend.  How was yours?

The husband and I.  A few days short of 5 years of marriage!

The three girls!  This picture is funny because it looks like the most beautiful day.  It actually poured down rain for a good part of the afternoon.

Rants and Ramblings

Welcome to this week's post of random and often un-related thoughts running around in my head and coming out my fingers. :)

1) How is it September 21st already?  It was 37 degrees yesterday morning.  Holy.  High on Saturday is supposed to be lower-60's.  Boots and sweaters time! :o)

2) I have become a contributer to a healthy living blog!  It's unpaid as of right now, but they're hoping to started generating enough through ads to pay their contributors a bit.  Hopefully I can post some great articles and someday make a few bucks off of it?  But for right now, I really do just enjoy sharing my weight-loss experience and tips to encourage others to do the same.  You can check out my article here.  Be sure to browse the full blog for great articles, tips, and recipes!

3) Matt and I are getting away on Saturday (overnight) with two other couples while my mom watches the nuggets at our house.  I am so stinking excited!!

4) I am currently borderline-obsessed with Goodwill.  The last few times I've been in there, I've picked up very cute, like-new skinny jeans for about $3.  I'm wearing a pair or two on our getaway this weekend.  Expect pics!

5) I ordered a whoopie-pie pan this week.  It's sad how excited I am about it.  Oh, the plans I have for this baby.

6) I have all of the so-far-purchased Christmas gifts in my house wrapped already.  Whoop!

7) You have to check out this story, of a runner/crafter/blogger I follow.  Wow.

8) Found out that Jameson can start at Hendrix's "school" at any time, instead of waiting until December.  Hoping to start him next week.  Seriously considering sending them both full time.  LOVE my current babysitter - nothing negative to say about her at all - just think both boys would benefit from having a more structured day every day.

9) Seriously need to get started on homemade Christmas gifts.  Said that last weekend.  Have yet to get started.  No time!  There's never any time!  I don't have time to study, I don't have time to........ok, who knows what I referenced there?  If you don't know, we can't be friends anymore.

10) I'm suddenly in the mood to watch terrible/awesome 90's tv.

Have a fantastic weekend.  I certainly plan to.

Weekend Recap (Sept 14-16)

This weekend involved a whole lot of relaxation, which was much needed!

I took a break from exercising, because my body was just really physically exhausted.  We slept, spent time together as a family, and enjoyed life.

Friday evening, Matt got home from his meeting in Illinois earlier than expected.  Him and I vedged on the couch after the boys went to bed, and accomplished nothing!

Saturday morning, we ran a few errands in town, hung out at home, and babysat a friend's two girls Saturday evening.

Sunday morning, we went to church, then watched football, and had the famous nachos for dinner.  So yummy....and unheathly!  Eep!

Hope you all had a great weekend, and can have a great week as well!

This little stinker will stand on his own, but is just too stubborn to take any steps!

See what I mean?

"I think we might need to go to the doctor, mommy!"

Mmmmm, grapes!

Indoor Banana Tree

I may be a sucker.  See this video?

Yup.  I took the bait.  $22 later, I have ordered 2 banana trees in hopes that.....our house becomes infested with fruit flies?  Hahaha!  Not sure how this is going to turn out, and my husband may very well kill me, but seriously.....with my healthy eating and two toddlers (who must be growing or something, because all the sudden, the only thing they want to do it EAT), we can go through a banana or two [an hour].

This will either be the best thing ever, or one of my stupid, gullible, sucker moments.  We shall see!  I'll keep you posted!  Not gonna lie, I'm pretty excited.

Fitness 2012: Week 37 (Sept. 9-15)

Stats for this past week!

Sunday 9 September
REST

Monday 10 September
30 minutes elliptical on my lunch break

Tuesday 11 September
20 minutes elliptical and 10 minutes resistance weights on my lunch break

Wednesday 12 September
30 minutes elliptical on my lunch break

Thursday 13 September
3 mile run on the treadmill (would have been a 5k, but the darn treadmill just up and stopped at, like, 2.99 miles.  Grr!  This really bothered the obsessive/compulsive part of me.  Hehehe!)

Friday 14 September
REST - planned to do Just Sweat on the Wii after the boys went to bed, but Matt got home from Illinois much early than anticipated, so we vedged on the couch together. :)

Saturday 15 September
REST - I really needed this extra rest.  My body has been physically exhausted this past week.  Not sure why.  I had a restful weekend though, and feel refreshed now!

I LOVE fall.  However, I do not love that it is pitch black out at 8:30 pm.  My opportunities to run outside are getting fewer and farther between, now that I won't run after dark.  Looks like weekend mornings and the treadmill are about it for the next 6 months or so.

It's ok though, really.  At this point, I'm focusing on maintaining my weight, and just staying healthy.  I want to always be able to run a minimum of a 5k, but running isn't the priority now, like it was last fall and winter, since I was training for the half marathon.  I'm at a weight, now, that is probably lower than what I weighed as a freshman or sophomore in high school.  It's crazy!  I'm just focusing on eating healthfully and exercising - in whatever form it comes - at least 4 times a week.

September

Is it just me, or is September really awkward?

It's not really summer anymore, but it's not fall yet either.  It can easily still be scorching hot, while everyone (ok, maybe just me?) is dreaming of crisp days, hot cider, and hoodies.

The temps are perfect for evening runs, but it's pitch black outside at 8:30, which is usually when I run in the evenings (no more night running alone for me).

It's hard to dress my boys (and myself, actually!).  Today is a perfect example.  The high is supposed to be in the lower 80's, but this morning, when leaving the house, it was barely 50 degrees, and chilly!

The corn and the beans are just starting to turn brown, but all of the trees are as green as can be.

Pumpkin recipes are all over Pinterest and the internet, I got out my pumpkin scented candles and sniffed them nostalgically yesterday, but it's not cool enough to fill the house with and/or burn pumpkin scents.

Oh September, you're crazy.  Nothing personal, but let's move on to your next door neighbor, October. :)

2.96 miles
This race course was - as you can see - about .15 miles short.  I compared what my Garmin said with what a fellow runner's garmin said, and they matched.  Regardless, I ran 3 miles in 25:26!!  That's definitely a new PR for me.  As we crossed the finish line, they gave us popcicle sticks with our place on them (hey, this was the first running of this race) and mine said 56.  I was super happy with that!  56th place out of 370 runners - sweet!  I ended up leaving to meet Matt and the boys, and my runner friend who stayed behind texted me a picture of a medal and told me I had placed 2nd in my division (women, ages 20-29)!!!!!  I've never placed in any race before, and did not even begin to expect it.  What a sweet surprise!

Rants and Ramblings

Today, I just have one big rant to go on.

Obnoxious sports fans.  Can't stand 'em.

If you know me at all, you know that I'm a die-hard Cowboys fan.  I'm a big sports fan in general.  Something about that physical competition that I just really love!

I think I'm a good fan though.  I love my team simply because I love them.  I "discovered" the Cowboys when I was twelve, back in 1996.  I jumped on the bandwagon at that time because they were "the team" at the time.  But I haven't swayed from my love and loyalty to them in the last 16 (ouch, I feel old) years.  So, like I said, I'm a Cowboys fan just because I am.

So many fans (of any team, not just the Cowboys) lately get their kicks by just dogging other teams all the time.  It's like their level of loyalty to their team is judged only by how many insults they can throw around at other teams and other fans.  It seriously drives me crazy.

If you're a die-hard fan of any team - that's great.  I encourage that kind of sports excitement!  But don't be obnoxious about it.  It's just annoying.

I've spent the last 16 years hearing about a gazillion people talk about how much they hate the Cowboys.  They're a team you either love or you hate.  I'm the only member of my family who's a lover. :)  So I'm not going on this rant because my feelings are hurt.  I'm used to the insults! Haha!

I think social networking plays a big part in this growing pet-peeve of mine.  So many people (mostly women, I must add) fill their news feeds with "That team sucks!" and "Your quarterback is such a girl!" and so on and so forth.  I was ***this*** close to deleting a female co-worker of mine this morning because of it.

It's great and a lot of fun to get excited about a sporting event.  It's ok and normal to be really bummed when your team doesn't pull off a win.  But to sit around and "be a fan" by dogging every other team out there, I can't stand it.  It seems like something a 14 year old boy would do.

I'm just sayin. ;)  And with that, today's installment of "Rants and Ramblings" comes to a close.

Happy almost-weekend, and happy football season, friends.

Labor Day Weekend Recap (Aug 31 - Sept 3)

Our weekend can be summed up like this: a lot of relaxation, along with a bit of drama to end the weekend.

***WARNING***
This post contains a photo of a pretty graphic nature towards the end.  If you have a queasy stomach, you've been warned.

I will be posting some recipes and crafty inspirations this week on my other blog, which you can check out here.

I spent some time in the kitchen this weekend.  I made homemade salsa, which is absolutely fantastic!  I've been trying to find a good salsa recipe for a while now, and I finally found one!  I also made the original Nestle Tollhouse recipe cookies, but used some substitutes to make them a bit healthier.  They are also fantastic.  I made monkey bread and tested out a Pinterest recipe for pizza casserole.  It was quite tasty!

The Salsa:

My healthified version of the Nestle Tollhouse recipe:

Monkey bread!  (I'm working on taking better pictures of food.  I like this shot.)

I also finished the re-do of our pantry cupboard in the kitchen.  We painted it white last weekend, and I added lavender details on it this weekend, using my Silhouette.  I love it, and will be sharing it on my other blog this week!

Monday, we headed to the Toledo Zoo with our friend, and the boys' babysitter, and her sister and children.  We were there for a little over two hours.  It was so hot and muggy!

After the zoo, we rested, and finished up our craftiness.  All was well Monday afternoon.  Then, 6 pm came.  Matt headed out for Indiana (he is on vacation this coming week.  He is in Indiana today, golfing with his brothers.) and Hendrix, Jameson, and I were up in their bedroom playing.  Hendrix was on his top bunk, and him and I were tossing a glow stick back and forth to each other.  (I would like to note that we were not in the dark, we had a lamp on.)  I leaned over to reach the glow stick, and in the split second that I turned my head, Hendrix fell off the bed and hit his head on the trim along the floor.  I checked him out and saw a trickle of blood on his neck.  Upon further inspection, I saw that he had laid his head open. ***Gross picture warning.***

I called Matt and had him turn around.  When he got home, I took Hendrix to the hospital.  We were there for about two hours, but they numbed him and put 8 staples in his head.  It was pretty traumatic for both of us, but we lived to tell the story.

The plans for this upcoming week are to tear out our (only!!) bathroom floor and have the plumbing re-done.  Then, re-lay the floor, and put laminate down to match what's in the living room.  It's going to be hectic in our home this week.  Yikes!

I'm hoping that this short work-week goes by quickly, because we've got a busy, but fun weekend coming up!

Take care, everyone!  I'll leave you with a few other pictures from the weekend.

Daddy teaching Hendrix to play the Wii.

I scored a very cute pair of skinny jeans for $3 at Goodwill!  The most exciting part?  Size 6.  Squeal!!

Sewing valances for our kitchen windows.  Made from a set of bed sheets.

Smooching on my Jamers after bath.  Love this fat piggy baby.

Was feeling lazy and decided to wear my hair scrunched.  I actually kind of loved it.

Oh this boy loves to eat!
